How VR and AR Will Change How Art is Experienced

Virtual reality has the ability to transform the way in which people and businesses interact with each other, as well as how they manage what’s around them. Initially, virtual reality was unique to the gaming industry, but recent advances in artificial intelligence have furthered the uses of VR, allowing users to experience their surroundings in more immersive ways. For example, virtual reality is being applied to medicine, specifically in pain management, where headsets are being used to distract patients’ brains and confuse the pain pathway by drawing their minds from the suffering. Within a more corporate setting, companies can use VR to determine their potential sales performance and customers’ growth in a virtual setting.

Another interesting place that we’re seeing the use of virtual and augmented reality is within the arts. Museums in particular are using these immersive technologies to create exhibitions that greatly change the way visitors experience art. For example, the 2018 exhibition René Magritte: The Fifth Season at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art set up digital windows with the artist’s pieces and served as “mirrors” for patrons. Invaluable created a neat visual that highlights other museum exhibits and the ways in which they’re calling upon VR and AR to alter the way we see art. Check it out below!
