And whereas we do not have a launch date but for Netflix’s hit sports activities comedy, there’s nonetheless lots to speak about in terms of the return of the LA Waves and their fortuitous chief, Isla (Kate Hudson).
Navigating what it means to run a basketball crew was the core of season 1, and it seems like season 2 is ready to hold the torch, little question with rising drama for Isla as she struggles not solely together with her enterprise life, however her private one, too. Here’s every part we all know thus far about Running Point season 2 from launch date prediction, confirmed forged, plot rumors, information and extra.
Running Point season 2: is there a release date?
We don’t have a Running Point season 2 release date just yet, but we do have some exciting news to share. Thanks to an Instagram selfie from Kate Hudson, aka Isla Gordon, on August 15, it was revealed that Running Point season 2 is officially in production.
The show’s renewal was confirmed in an official X/Twitter post only a week after season 1 was launched on Netflix. And within the submit, Hudson says: “A superb basketball crew proprietor is aware of when to take heed to followers. So we hear you. And so did Netflix. Running Point is formally coming again for season two!”
If I had been to foretell a launch date, I’d have a look again at how filming for season 1 commenced in Feburary 2024 and the present launched a yr later.
So, if the Running Point season 2 is again in manufacturing, it seems like we’re taking a look at a mid-to-late 2026 launch date.

Running Point season 2: story synopsis and rumors
Full spoilers for Running Point season 1 to follow.
Running Point season 1 centred around Isla (Kate Hudson) taking over as the president of her family’s business – running fictional basketball team, the LA Waves. And, I’m pretty sure given how season 1 went down, that season 2 will be much of the same with serious business going down, as well as a lot of laughs along the way.
As Isla navigates getting her head in the game, she struggles with how to take charge in a male-dominated world, not helped by her unruly brothers trying to cut her off at every pass, as well as players she can’t manage to control either.
And to throw it into the already-overwhelming mix, there’s the wildly emotionally-confusing love triangle that forms between her, her fiancé, Lev (Max Greenfield) and the team’s coach, Jay Brown (Jay Ellis).
Which, if you’ve seen the season 1 finale, you’ll know ended with a kiss between Jay and Isla, which is a cliffhanger that certainly needs unpacking in season 2.
Fortunately, speaking to TheWrap, the present’s co-creator Ike Barinholtz reveals season 2 will do exactly that: “We do not know where it’s going to go yet, but I can assure you it’s going to be hot.”
To which co-creator Mindy Kaling provides: “But then you have Max (Lev) – he’s not just like some loser at home, playing video games; he’s a doctor, a handsome doctor, who loves her. We just love making it hard for her.”
But, in terms of choosing up from the place the Waves had been left within the season 1 finale, dropping sport seven of the playoffs, Kaling says it is all a part of the larger plan: “It felt like if she lost, she’s more on her heels, and that it would make the next season going into it a little bit more difficult for her than coming back as a reigning champ.”
While we do not have an official Running Point season 2 plot synopsis simply but, Kaling revealed in March, months earlier than manufacturing commenced, that they’d been creating potential storylines: “We have little ideas, because we are like we believe these characters are real, and we would like to think about what they are doing and having other adventures.”
Will there be more seasons of Running Point?
There’s no news on any future seasons of Running Point yet. But, showrunner David Stassen (working alongside long-time collaborators Mindy Kaling and Ike Barinholtz) told The Hollywood Reporter that they’ve lots extra concepts for extra: “If we were given carte blanche, I think we could do 10 to 20 (episodes) a year.”
Adding: “We can obviously do 10. But 10 is easy. Let’s keep going.” So, whether or not Running Point season 2 will run longer than the ten episodes of season 1, or if the creators plan to avoid wasting up extra episodes for an additional season, we’ll have to attend and see. But, Stassen clearly thinks they’ll do it!
Plus, if it comes all the way down to whether or not they need to do it, chatting with TheWrap, Kaling mentioned: “This is the most fun show I think I’ve ever worked on – I love these guys so much. I love the cast… we really hope we can do this till the end of our days.”
